Erling Haaland Scores Hat-Trick as Manchester City Beats Chelsea 4-2 in Preseason Match

Erling Haaland scored a hat-trick to help Manchester City secure a 4-2 victory over Chelsea, who made several mistakes in Columbus.

The 24-year-old Haaland netted two goals in the first five minutes, capitalizing on two crucial errors from Chelsea that handed the Premier League champions an early lead.

The first goal came from a careless pass by Tosin Adarabioyo, with Levi Colwill fouling Haaland, resulting in a penalty in the fourth minute. Haaland scored after the penalty was retaken.

Haaland doubled City’s lead almost immediately by intercepting a poor pass from Moises Caicedo and finishing with a goal.

Another pair of quick goals in the second half gave Pep Guardiola’s side a commanding lead. City’s third came from a mistake by Chelsea substitute Raheem Sterling, allowing Oscar Bobb to score with a near-post shot in the 55th minute.

Haaland completed his hat-trick just a minute later after a mistake by Malo Gusto.

Chelsea responded with two goals, first through a volley by Raheem Sterling from a cross in the 59th minute, and then Noni Madueke scored through a counterattack in the 88th minute in front of 68,000 spectators at Ohio Stadium.

Maresca emphasized that his team played well in what he described as a “strange” match, with both managers blaming the "dry" pitch for the mistakes in ball control.

City now returns to England to face Manchester United in the Community Shield next Saturday, while Chelsea stays in the United States for a match against Real Madrid on Tuesday night before facing Inter Milan at Stamford Bridge next Sunday.
